Tour the Highland Historic Loop Drive with historic sites identified on a special map which may be obtained online or at any Visitor Center in the area.

Okanogan County is rich in history. It offers a wide variety of historical cultural museums and activities. The Okanogan County Historical Museum in Okanogan features a replica of an old west town of early 1900's and a Fire Hall Museum. The Colville Tribal Museum located in Coulee Dam features many historical displays of early Indian settlements and their lifestyles.

Located in western Okanogan Country, the Schaeffer Museum in Winthrop features displays of the early settlers, miners, and ranchers in the Methow Valley.

In the northern area of Okanogan Country you will find the Depot Museum in Oroville and the Old Molson Ghost Town Museum 15 miles east. It has full-scale buildings, farming and mining equipment on five acres. A quarter mile north is the Molson School Museum housing 4 floors of Early Pioneer Family and Educational Displays in a brick building from 1914. The Oroville Depot Museum is open Thursdays and Saturdays and by appointments with a call to (509) 476-2303.

In the Northwestern corner of Okanogan Country is the Antique Truck and Car Museum near Malo and the Stonerose Interpretive Fossil Center in Republic.

The large Colville Indian Reservation has many historical and cultural activities including the Sun Flower festival, in May at Paschal Sherman Indian School. The annual Fourth of July Powwow is held in Nespelem each year. This event lasts for 10 full days. The annual Omak Stampede Indian Encampment Powwow is held the second weekend in August and lasts four days. The public is invited to these traditional powwows.
Native Fancy DancerIn Conconully near the entrance of the state park is a replica of the first county courthouse. It features a sod roof and is typical of many of the ranch cabins that dotted the landscape in the early years of white settlement in the Okanogan.
